How to Fix Windows 8 VPN Not Working Issue!

Are you trying to establish VPN connections on your new Windows 8 operating system? If you are search for this, I am sure you have encountered some problems.

Please try the following steps to setup VPN in Windows 8:

  1. Right click the bottom right panel to open “Network and Sharing Center” or open it from the Control Panel
  2. From the network and sharing center click and select: “Set up a new connection or network”
  3. In the next window, choose: “Connect to a workplace” and click Next
  4. In the next window, select “Use my Internet Connection (VPN)”
  5. In the next window, type YOUR VPN URL such as VPN.XXXX.com in the Internet address field and click Create
  6. Click the network (monitor or wireless signal) icon in the bottom-right of the windows screen

  7. Right-click your new VPN connection and select View connection properties

  8. Select the protocol for your connection if you know it. For example, If you VPN uses PPTP, in the dialogue box, click the security tab, under Type of VPN select Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP). If you don’t know it, leave it default. 
  9. Here is the important part to fix the problem with many Windows 8 VPN connections: Select the radio button Allow these protocols, then tick Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) and Microsoft CHAP version 2 (MSCHAP v2) and click OK.

  10. Click the network icon in the bottom-right of the screen again, click your VPN connection then click Connect
  11. Type in your username and VPN (remote access) password then click OK
  12. After a short delay your computer should connect via VPN and you will be able to access our secure services and resources.
